MINING THREATENS ENERGY IMBALANCE IN QUEBEC
The further deployment of mining centers in the province of Quebec, Canada, may lead to an imbalance in the energy system. The Canadian energy company Hydro-Quebec is reviewing its commercial policy since the number of applications for the deployment of mining centers in Quebec has exceeded 70 in just a week. Quebec has recently attracted the attention of miners around the world, especially from China. Manufacturer of mining equipment Bitmain (Beijing) is going to open a data center in Quebec. Negotiations are already underway with local energy agencies. Hydro-Quebec spokesman Marc-Antoine Pouliot says: “We receive dozens of applications every day. This forces us to designate our strategy. We cannot provide electricity to everyone. The situation develops very quickly, therefore, we must be prudent.”
