Citizens of the European Union will be able to demand the complete removal of their personal data from the databases of companies within a month. The new EU Regulation on the protection of personal information will come into force in late May 2018. The EU citizens will be able to require companies that own personal data to completely remove them from any bases. However, the “Regulations” do not apply to companies that use blockchain. The technology of distributed data storage gives the owner maximum control over the data which are stored in encrypted formats. These data cannot be edited, sold to third parties or deleted. The lawyers of the information protection department consider it necessary to adapt the new Regulation, taking into account the exploration of blockchain technology.
